The Crusher Sauvignon Blanc offers vibrant, inviting aromas of tropical pineapple and kiwi fruit as well as blooming floral notes alongside hints of freshly cut grass. The wine offers layers of flavors on the palate with crisp apple, lemon meringue tart and classic lemon zest essence. The addition of an outstanding lot of Balletto Vineyard Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc fruit in the blend, along with aging time spent on the lees, gives the wine a beautiful creamy texture while preserving the bright acidity and zesty character typically found in California Sauvignon Blanc.
With its moderate climate, and diverse terroir, California offers many distinct AVAs. Known for its abundant sunshine which helps to ensure a reliable extended growing season, the “Golden State” has become an American winemaking mecca on par with the other great wine regions of the world. California boasts nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs), that encompass over half million acres of vineyards, supporting a diverse varietal mix. For our 2018 The Crusher Sauvignon Blanc, the majority of the blend comes from Lodi, California where the warm weather develops Sauvignon Blanc with loads of tropical fruit character and juicy fruit concentration. In addition to the Lodi fruit, one-third of the Sauvignon Blanc blend came from the Balletto Vineyard in Russian River Valley. Known for producing high-quality, tropical flavored Sauvignon Blanc, this addition in the final blend adds complexity and beautiful texture.
*California’s 2018 harvest wrapped up early this fall following a warm summer and a growing season that saw significant rain throughout the state ending a five-year drought. It is worth noting, while the October 2017 wildfires in the North Coast area made international headlines, the state’s vineyards and wineries were not significantly affected. Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties, the regions most impacted by the fires, grow 12 percent of California’s winegrapes, and 90% percent of the harvest in Napa and Sonoma and 85% in Mendocino were already picked and in production at wineries before the fires. For The Crusher Sauvignon Blanc, all of our fruit was safely in the winery and unaffected by the fires. California enjoyed above average rainfall that helped end the ongoing drought; the vines were healthy and well-watered and enjoyed a warm summer when harvest began at a normal time and pace. The harvest yields are what was expected and quality and flavor development is excellent.
